Becki Biggins debut gig at PizzaExpress Jazz Club was a total sell out. Ross Dines, Music Manger of the club said ‘Becki suited the Dean Street club beautifully. She has a stunning voice and does what she does really well, as well as being extremely elegant.’
Despite being only in her twenties, Becki has already had a number one album in the U.S. Smooth Jazz Chart, Hardcastle 5, with composer and producer Paul Hardcastle (19, The Wizard). The album was at the top of the charts for 62 weeks, and has peaked at number one for a total of eight weeks. The sole vocalist on the album, Becki has also co-written four of the tracks, gaining her American Billboard’s Best Contemporary Jazz Artist Award for 2008. Closer to home, Becki won the Best Newcomer Award at the 2008 Marlborough Jazz Festival where she performed again in 2009. She was recently nominated for the 2009 Grammy Award of Best Contemporary Jazz Album.
She performs original arrangements of contemporary standards and singer songwriter tunes with her ‘Dream Team’: Malcolm Edmonstone, piano (Strictly Come Dancing, Jacqui Dankworth), Jeff Clyne, bass (Stan Tracey, Blossom Dearie, Marion Montgomery) and Harold Fisher, drums (the Laurie Holloway Trio, Parkinson Band, Strictly Come Dancing, BBC Big Band). Jeff Clyne sadly died on Monday 16th November 2009 and tonight’s show will be dedicated to his memory.
