Award-winning saxophonist, composer and bandleader, Yuri Honing, is renowned for his exquisite saxophone tone and compositions that reflect his jazz roots and love of songs and electronics.
Honing has always been eager to experiment with music from different genres and over the years has collaborated with a number of distinguished musicians – Dutch improviser Misha Mengelberg, Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich as well as jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny. Honing’s interpretation of Schubert’s song cycle Winterreise, is one of a number of acclaimed classical collaborations. In 2002 Honing was awarded a Grammy for the album Seven with Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motion and in May this year he won the prestigious Dutch award – Boy Edgar Prijis.
