The “World Hunger Day Unplugged” season, in aid of The Hunger Project, kicks off with a roof raising, spirit lifting Gospel Brunch in the company of the spectacular voices of the London Community Gospel Choir - celebrating 30 years as the pre-eminent figures of UK Gospel Music. Expect to be inspired by their funky gospel flair, swing-beat, RnB, traditional and soulful arrangements, with invigorating choreography and vocal gymnastics. The London Community Gospel Choir has been one of The Hunger Project’s Gala Concert “Friends” from the start – helping us to launch World Hunger Day with Dionne Warwick at the Apollo Victoria in January 2011, lifting the roof at the Royal Albert Hall last year, and now with us to launch our 2013 season …. not to mention adding their amazing voices to the recording of our forthcoming single release – ‘One World, One Song’, with music written by the legendary Tony Hatch.

Stan Tracey is an outstanding figure in the jazz world. His career, spanning five decades, has had a huge influence on both his peers and successive generations. As the house pianist at Ronnie Scott’s in the 1960s he played with all the visiting American jazz greats. Sonny Rollins said of Stan, ‘does anybody here know how good he really is?’ His piano-playing combines the percussive melody of Monk with the robust lyricism of Ellington, resulting in a brilliantly idiosyncratic style.

Mimika is a contemporary jazz ensemble presenting intricate mind-expanding compositions about cosmic migrations and cultural evolution.
“The title Ensemble is actually meant to denote a small orchestra, like the ones once lead by Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, Gil Evans and Gerry Mulligan, and with further associations to Vienna Art Orchestra (with a female vocalist) or second-line New Orleans street marching bands. The latter, because instruments such as the tuba, which is slowly returning to the jazz scene in the last decades, are found in the line-up. The four piece brass section uses many different mutes and there are as much as six reed intruments, a three piece rhythm section and finally, a female voice” – Ognjen Tvrtkovic for jazz.hr.
