Antonio Forcione Trio
Show Time 8:30pm / Doors Open 7:00pm
“Forcione is a unique performer, a master of the guitar and an explorer of new ground between existing cultures. Seek him out - your ears and your soul will thank you” – londonjazzblogspot.co.uk.
Dazzling guitarist-composer Antonio Forcione brings his finger-picking brilliance and his brilliant trio and special guests to the PizzaExpress Jazz Club in December. Performing tracks from his latest CD ‘Sketches Of Africa’ (his first album in five years), and joining him onstage will be the acoustic bass virtuoso Matheus Nova, the highly sought-after percussionist Anselmo Netto, and the gifted cellist, Jenny Adejayan.
Antonio was inspired to record ‘Sketches Of Africa’ after recent travels around the African continent. The album features tracks composed with musicians from Senegal, Gambia, Zimbabwe and more: featured musicians on the album include: Adriano Adewale, Jenny Adejayan, Nathan Thompson, Seckou Keita (Senegal), Chiwoniso Maraire (Zimbabwe), Juldeh Camara (Gambia), Zamo Mbutho (South Africa), Dominique di Piazza, Dado Pasqualini and Enzo Zirilli. All tracks were composed and arranged by Antonio Forcione and co-produced by Antonio Forcione and Chris Kimsey.
The award-winning Antonio Forcione, acoustic guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and talented artist, is a highly charismatic and inventive performer. He breaks the mould of most conventional, popular guitar sounds, be it in the field of jazz, Spanish, African, Brazilian or improvised music. International tours have brought high critical acclaim from as far as Australia and Hong Kong to Russia, the Caribbean, USA and all over Europe.

World Hunger Day 2013: Andrew Roachford & Friends – Special Guest Omar
Show Time 6:30pm / Doors Open 5:00pm
In aid of The Hunger Project UK.
With a career spanning two decades, a string of hit singles, platinum and gold albums and song writing and touring collaborations with, among others, ‘Mike and The Mechanics’, singer-songwriter Andrew Roachford is undeniably a prolific and unique talent. His rare ability to put into words ‘feelings you didn’t even know you had’, has become his trademark. Growing up in a ‘vibrant melting pot’ culture in London, his influences are as diverse as his family’s own jazz roots: the soul of Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Jimi Hendrix … through to reggae, punk and rock. But when all has been said and done, whatever the flavour of his music, Andrew is at his absolute best ‘taking the daily challenges of life and love and helping the rest of us make sense of it.’ This is Andrew’s début at PizzaExpress Jazz Club and as an artist ‘Friend’ of World Hunger Day.

Shakatak have enjoyed a level of success and career longevity rarely paralleled in contemporary music – but then Shakatak is a particularly unusual group. Because of the nature of their music, their fan base is one that is far reaching while always retaining an “underground” element. This paradox sees the band, who are known primarily as serious jazz/funk musicians, enjoying both high “cult” status and instant recognition as a household name.
