Wednesday 27th – Sunday 31st March 2019
The late Peter Boizot (1929-2018) followed on from the success of his Soho jazz club and Knightsbridge cabaret room, Pizza on the Park - both opened in the late 1970s – with the opening of the Music Room in Maidstone on 30th March 1989.
The venue started out presenting exclusively jazz, suitably enough, as the building on Earl Street had previously been the home to the jazz club, Club 32. The first night featured clarinettist Dave Shepherd, who also happened to lead the PizzaExpress All Stars.
Over the years the music policy has diversified, though the Music Room continues to attract jazz artists of the calibre of Stacey Kent, Darius Brubeck and Liane Carroll. Pop and rock artists have been attracted to the room, including Glenn Tilbrook, Hue and Cry, China Crisis, Space, Judie Tzuke, Gerry and the Pacemakers; as well as funk and soul artists like Ray Lewis, Geno Washington, Brit Funk Association and many more.
For our 30th anniversary, we are delighted to present a series of special shows from 27th to 31st March - star names Nadine Coyle (Girls Aloud) and Scouting For Girls make their venue debuts, while perennial favourites Mark Morriss, Liane Carroll and Hil St Soul make a welcome return. Local musicians The Gallerys and Thomas Reinhart provide support.
