8 Man Tent formed in 2017 as a Disco-Funk covers outfit, originally entertaining private events and parties. Almost two years later the band continues to evolve, combining the very best of 70s and 80s funk with a distinctive and original sound to provide shows packed with classic dance-floor hits and exciting new material.
Comprised of eight accomplished young musicians, 8 Man Tent contains all the makings of a classic Funk outfit with a twist. A tight rhythm section and Nile Rodgers-inspired guitar work complement 80s style synth sounds and a dynamic three-part horn section. All this, combined with a soulful lead singer and close-harmony style backing vocals, allows this emerging outfit to play an authentic style of Funk: The hits of Earth, Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, The Jacksons, The Bee Gees and George Michael are regulars in any setlist.
The Tent have taken their original brand all over London, with a headline slot at Surrey Food Festival, a showcase at the Hideaway Jazz Club and a slot at The Islington among their recent ventures. This Soho slot is undoubtedly the band’s most exciting gig yet, promising an opportunity to introduce the very best of South London Funk to a new audience in this established and prestigious venue.
