The AfroCuba:Jazz Sessions are a unique staple of the festival, now in the 3rdvolume. London'sblooming jazz scene is one of its defining musical strengths; as such, this night aims to provide abridge between the Latin and Afrolatin musical traditions and the unique, evolving London jazzsound. The festival brings to you an exclusive collaboration directed by Cuban percussion virtuosoHammadi Valdés (Chucho Valdés), where him and his team of world-renowned Afrocuban folklorepercussionists share their musical tradition with UK-based trio MATT3RS UNKNOWN.

MATT3RS UNKNOWN is the trio formation of multi-instrumentalist and composer Jonny Enser'sdebut project; brass contributor to Nubiyan Twist, he has put together an ensemble that featuressome of the most powerful forces exploring music in the UK. Each member has different languagesfor conversing with his compositions, drawing musicians from Emma Jean Thackray, Noya Raoand beyond.

This ensemble sees inspired narratives flowing through a triangular column. Full bodiedsoundscapes executed from a contemporary line up, each musician multitasking to the brink of theirability leaving little space for egoic manifestation; forces collide, expand and contract, the musicfinds a balanced path throughout. Samples, Keyboards, Sythesisers, Drum kit, Drum Machine, Tubaand Trumpet. The writing is steeped in deeply spiritual, organic soulful roots, with undercurrentscarrying grooves from the Blues to West Coast Beats all evoked through African diasporicinfluence, a tradition beholding artists such as Donald Byrd, Motown, J Dilla, Theo Parrish and TheTribe.
