“So Good"

Gilles Peterson, 6 Music

Baiana is the culmination of LAURA DOYLE’s amazing life, which has seen her travel the world as "first lady" with the Italian diplomatic service, study clowning under the great Philippe Gaulier in Paris and become an international football agent.

Laura was inspired to form the band after living in Rio de Janeiro, where she became enraptured by the music of the dance halls and fell under the spell of musicians such as Gilberto Gil, Elis Regina, João Gilberto and Tom Jobim.

Their unique sound caught the attention of internationally acclaimed Afro- Cuban jazz legend Mark “Snowboy” Cotgrove, (producer, DJ and percussionist of international renown, who has worked with musicians such as Lisa Stansfeild, Imelda May, Amy Winehouse, Simply Red, James Taylor, Mark Ronson) who produced their breakthrough single Saudade Samba (which spent 10 weeks on the Jazz FM A-list playlist, featured on BBC Radio 6’s Gilles Peterson show) and is currently producing their debut album due for release spring 2023.

The incredible line up for the evening features band leader Laura Doyle on vocals, Neil Angilley on keys (of grammy nominated Down to the Bone fame, Vanessa Mae, Shirley Bassey), John Wheatcroft on guitar (Paulus Schäfer, Mozes Rozenberg), Andy Lafone on bass (Snowboy, Da Lata) and Davide Giovannini on drums (Paul McCartney, Lisa Stansfield)

Always full of passion, this will be a night of infectious rhythm, superb musicianship, and beautiful song.
