Single Launch & Album Showcase

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Thursday 1 st June 2023

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Presenting an intimate, powerful and evocative collection of original compositions (in Basque, Spanish and English) where world music, contemporary jazz and folk meet. Bea’s unmistakably personal voice unveils a unique, moving and fearless expression of vulnerability over a soundscape that invites the listener to reflect upon sorrow, forgiveness, family, death, self-love and the importance of mental health awareness. Through her lyrics, Bea also intends for their songs to be an invitation to the listener to venture out of their own assumptions and reflect upon the meaning of being a woman in our society and the importance of women’s empowerment. Come and join Bea Asurmendi Quintet, this will be a special evening as they are celebrating the launch of a single as well as showcasing their upcoming album.

Bea Asurmendi is an up-and-coming vocalist and composer born in the Basque Country active in London’s live music scene. She has had the opportunity to work with, among others, legendary jazz vocalist Norma Winstone, the internationally acclaimed jazz vocal group New York Voices and Latin Grammy Award winner film composer Fernando Velázquez, with whom she has taken part in various international movie and theatre soundtracks. Currently, she is finishing up her Masters in Jazz Singing at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Bea was lucky enough to meet four incredibly talented and inspiring musicians she deeply admires (Gianluca Corona, Giovanni Cresseri, Milena Granci and Filippo Galli) and formed Bea Asurmendi Quintet. Together they yield a distinctive blend of sounds which reveals echoes of artists like Silvia Pérez Cruz, Josefine Cronholm, Ralph Towner and Al Di Meola. On this “Single Launch” evening, the audience will have the chance to hear their soon-to-be-released debut album, Asteartea, before they embark on a European tour at the end of the month with promising glimpses of what's to come.
