PizzaExpress Live (Birmingham)

Between Worlds are a band dedicated to exploring new musical avenues and existing in the intersections of Black music from the diaspora. With a wide range of influences ranging from Robert Glasper to the Clark Sisters, they cross boundaries, refusing to be pigeonholed into a specific genre. A four-piece of sax, keys, drums and bass, they've individually played with and for a variety of artists including Kokoroko, Kim Burrell, Lynda Dawn and Ghetts. The band will be performing a number of original tunes, as well as re-working some familiar classics.

Between Worlds started in 2018, when bandleader Akil Henry put together a band for his sold-out debut concert 'With A Little Help From My Friends Vol.1". The band gelled so well that they decided to come together in their first incarnation as Rubix. Changing their name to Between Worlds, this year, the band recently played the Underbelly at Hoxton (as part of through the noise's noisenights series), the Front Room in Croydon, opened for Ashley Allen in Birmingham, and played their first Sofar Sounds in November 2021. Their collective credits include Ed Sheeran, Kim Burrell, Lynda Dawn, Ghetts, B Positive Choir, Kadeem Tyrell, Tendai, Kokoroko, Ivy Knights, Brixton Chamber Orchestra, Brooks and The Company, Salliefoyeh, Jon Onabowu and many more.
