Claudia Fontaine passed away, sadly, in March. She was one of the most respected backing vocalists over the last 30 years. Claudia was a leader and motivator, through her determination and sheer will and talent, broke down so many barriers and opened the door for woman of colour in the UK music industry, and not just here, but the all important break-through for UK talent of colour to succeed in the US, too.
Her success inspired so many others to follow in her footsteps. This tribute show organised by close friends Beverley Skeete & Carroll Thompson with the blessing of Claudia's family, gives all those who loved Claudia, friends, ex colleagues and fans, an opportunity to honour Claudia in song, stories and laughter. She was an incredible person, awesomely talented, funny, charismatic, full of energy, humour, stories-on-the-road and laughter.
All artists who have agreed to perform have committed to donate their time for free to help celebrate her life and share the times they spent with her.
Claudia's musical range was vast; Lovers rock, Reggae, Soul, RnB, Rock & Pop, Claudia sang them all, and in a music career of more than 30 years supported the likes of Michael Jackson, Annie Lennox, Pink Floyd, Robbie Williams, Elvis Costello, Chaka Khan, Boy George, The Jam, Dusty Springfield, Julia Fordham, Madness, Neneh Cherry, Jools Holland, The Specials, Marilyn, Heaven 17 and Howard Jones. She was also a recurring vocalist for the band, Incognito.
You are all invited to what will be a very respectful, intimate, sad and a gloriously funky and soulful reggaefied show by all who knew and played with her.
Claudia - with respect and in your honour - RIP.
