Bill Charlap and Stephen Keogh 'Here's to Louis'

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Friday 10 th November 2017

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

A concert devoted to the memory of one of the great guitarists in Jazz, Louis Stewart.

One of the world’s premier jazz pianists, Grammy award winner Bill Charlap has performed and recorded with many leading artists of our time, ranging from jazz masters Phil Woods and Wynton Marsalis to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. In 2000 a trio was formed with Stephen Keogh on Drums and Mark Hodgson on bass, called European Jazz Piano Trio led by Bill Charlap. The trio released the CD 'Artfully' (recorded live at PizzaExpress) to wide critical acclaim. The following year the trio recorded again for an album, with the late great guitar legend Louis Stewart, called 'Gift'.  The tours that followed forged deep musical and personal friendships. Louis Stewart died August 20th, 2016. Although he may have left us, physically speaking, the timeless spirit of the music, and of him, whom we all love, is still very much alive.

"A master class in class."
