Love letter to Broadway is a tribute to the lyricists and composers whose songs have graced the Broadway stages. Combining her love of jazz and musical theatre, vocalist, Catherine Lima, and her excellent quartet bring you songs and stories about the lives of songwriters such as George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Dorothy Fields, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein and Harry Warren. These writers were masters of their art and their songs have endured, often outside the shows where they were first introduced, as beautifully crafted pieces that deserve their place in songwriting history.

London based jazz singer/songwriter, Catherine has been delighting her audiences on the jazz circuit for over 18 years. A charismatic and entertaining performer, she has a warm expressive tone which she uses expertly to create moods from sultry to joyous drawing on influences such as Anita O’Day, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Patricia Barber and Barbra Streisand.

Catherine’s work to date includes:

Love Letter to Broadway - an homage to the Tin Pan Alley song writers whose songs have graced the Broadway Stage – George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen … giving each song a context that invites the audience to focus on the lyrics of the song and to appreciate the artistry of the songwriters.

With Ian Marcus on saxophone and flute, Alex Keen on double bass, Les Cirkel on drums and led by Paul Higgs on piano. Paul’s extensive musical career includes, performing, composing and arranging music for film, TV and theatre. For many years he was Musical Director for the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company and is renowned as one of the UK’s leading trumpet players.
