Every Thursday in PizzaExpress restaurants around the UK, Live Playlist bands play pop-up concerts combining lively performances of classic covers and the latest chart songs. For this special series of Christmas shows, we have pulled together some of the finest artists who have been involved in the Live Playlist project over the last year to bring you their favourite seasonal music!

MONDAY 11TH OF DECEMBER

Luca Manning

Luca Manning is somewhat of a rising star on the young jazz scene today. Known for his exciting improvisation, expressive phrasing and luminous vocal tone, Manning is a versatile performer. As well as his passion for singing classic jazz standards, Luca enjoys writing his own compositions. They are often inspired by a more contemporary sound – using the voice as a fully improvising instrument. Luca currently studies jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and brings his newly formed quintet featuring some of London’s most exciting young improvisers to PizzaExpress Jazz Club.

TUESDAY 12TH & FRIDAY 15TH OF DECEMBER 

Soul to Soul Acoustic

The Soul To Soul Acoustic Trio is made up of 3 London based musicians, Chloe on vocals, Richard on guitar and Ally on percussion. They play a mix of well-known songs with a soulful acoustic twist. Known for their great musicianship and diversity across genres, there is something that everyone will enjoy listening to from young to old. Come and catch the trio for their Christmas special! 

 

THURSDAY 14TH & MONDAY 18TH OF DECEMBER

Charlotte Churchman

Charlotte Churchman is a pop/R&B singer based in London. She started singing professionally shortly after moving to the south of England and has since performed at prestigious venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena. As well as performing live with artists like Belinda Carlisle, Nick Heyward, Mica Paris and Nina Nesbitt, she has also featured on various TV shows, including The Last Leg, The One Show and Children in Need. 

 

SATURDAY 16TH, SUNDAY 17TH AND THURSDAY 23RD OF DECEMBER 

Louise Golbey

Louise Golbey is a regular face on the soul/jazz live circuit across London and beyond. She has played at Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals and recorded at Maida Vale studios. She has shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Ed Sheeran, Paloma Faith, George Benson, Alexander O’Neal, Jarrod Lawson, Roberta Flack and most recently En Vogue at The Indigo2. Her tracks are regularly played on Jazz FM, Mi-Soul and BBC radio and she has also performed on London Live TV channel. Her current album ‘Novel’ features UK Soul legend Omar, a track with Mo Pleasure (Michael Jackson, Earth Wind & Fire) and a track with Grammy award winning producer Aamir Yaqub.

 

TUESDAY 19TH & WEDNESDAY 20TH OF DECEMBER 

Jana Vargová

Jana Vargová is a professional London-based singer and flautist. Equally at home performing jazz, pop, Motown/soul and contemporary, her unique voice brings a special flavour to every song. A versatile musician with a classical music background and vocal influences of jazz icons like Ella Fitzgerald and Chet Baker. Jana started her classical music studies (piano and flute) at the age of 6, continued in her hometown Bratislava (Slovakia) and later at Conservatories in France and Austria. She quickly developed a profound love of jazz and soul and started taking vocal lessons. After moving to London in 2014 she started writing her own songs and quickly became part of a wide range of musical projects performing across London’s most prestigious venues. Duo with guitarist Stefanos Tsourelis ‘Jana & Stefanos’ plays intimate versions of classic Motown and soul/blues tunes. French songs inspired ‘La Boîte À Musiques’ performs a sophisticated blend of swing, gypsy jazz and soul. Her quartet is inspired by classic swing era of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.

 

THURSDAY 21ST & FRIDAY 22ND OF DECEMBER 

Callum Gardner

British Singer-Songwriter Callum Gardner has been resonating his sound in some of London’s top music venues including Kensington Roof Gardens, Century Soho & Omeara. Mixing soulful vocals, insightful lyrics and jazz influenced harmony Callum has created a totally unique sound backed by a gripping rhythm section in Hugh Wheatley (Electric Guitar & Vocals) and Arlen Millward (Drums/Percussion & Vocals). Expect some re-worked classics from old to new, bringing a delightful platter of blues, soul, pop, folk & jazz to a venue you near you.
