Last Show: Friday 20 th April 2018

The Pheasantry (Chelsea)

This distinctive NYC jazz singer-pianist has been a longtime favourite on both shores as an enchanting performer and recording artist. From the Algonquin, Waldorf =Astoria to Jazz At Lincoln Center, Daryl Sherman is also no stranger to London venues and her UK fans look forward to her annual 'nooks and crannies' tours. Renowned for digging deeper into the archives than most of her peers, she has a unique way of blending her expressive voice and piano into a conversation that weaves a story from each song. This time Daryl (with fine support from bassist Andrew Cleyndert) will lend her magic to a surprising variety of hits popular on both shores, immortalized by Frank Sinatra, Nat Cole and Billie Holiday - all written by the unknown Carl Sigman.

"No veteran singer inhabits the full range of the American popular-song repertoire quite like the irreplaceable Daryl Sherman. A gently swinging pianist as well, precious few possess her abundant versatility, style, and charm." - The New Yorker

"Voice like honeysuckle, signature jazz sound, a stylistic compendium of Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey and Blossom Dearie." - Stephen Holden (The New York Times)

Popular UK singer/radio presenter Todd Gordon says: "Sigman wrote great and varied songs. I particularly like I Could Have Told You, It’s All in the Game and one of the first singles I recall as a child - You’re My World, by English singer Cilla Black. And, the terrific recording was produced by the Fifth Beatle, George Martin!" From Ebb Tide, 'Crazy He Calls Me', 'Dance Ballerina Dance', the song inspired by a phone number, Pennsylvannia 6-5000, to 'Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think)' this show promises you will enjoy yourself and maybe even sing along.

"Daryl Sherman, an impish singer-pianist with as good an eye for buried loot as Michael Feinstein, has crossed the Atlantic again. Her blend of well-honed anecdotes and astute musicianship yielded the intimacy of a tete-tete, the audience hanging on her every word. Her passion for swing and understated epigramatic soloing are more than enough to keep hardcore jazzers happy." - Clive Davis, The Times
