Last Show: Wednesday 17 th July 2019
The Pheasantry (Chelsea)
A long time favourite of UK audiences, the charming, canny, swinging New York singer-pianist Daryl Sherman returns to The Pheasantry this time focusing on jazz trumpet icon Louis Armstrong as a singer and his importance to the American Song Book. Known the world over as 'Satchmo', his unique gravelly sound and phrasing influenced singers from Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald to Frank Sinatra. Inspired by Satchmo's renditions which covered blues, swing, to 'Chim Chim Cheree' and 'Hello Dolly', Daryl Sherman crosses over and outside the box with songs from Broadway, film, pop, jazz songs. And like Satchmo, she will bring out the best in them. Her recent CD 'Lost In A Crowded Place' features his hits like 'Stars Fell On Alabama'. A definite inclusion will also be Queen Elizabeth's favourite 'On The Sunny Side Of The Street'. For these special two nights Daryl looks forward to reuniting with dear pals - the best of Britain: July 16, Digby Fairweather, trumpet and Andrew Cleyndert, bass and July 17, Alan Barnes, reeds and Dave Green, bass.
