After his sensational sold out 2019 Blue Note Years concert at Dean Street, and another sold out 2021 concert, it’s a much awaited return to Dave O’Higgins – the most highly rated Jazz saxophanist, playing the music of three of the all-time tenor saxophone greats, Stanley Turrentine, Hank Mobley and Dexter Gordon. Dave, with his personal and recognisable style, is justifiably one of the most popular saxophonist on the UK and international jazz scene for 30 years and has 21 albums as leader under his belt.

Jazz Views

Dave’s tenor and soprano sax sounds are highly personal and recognisable, with a clear sense of melodic development and adventure. With an excellent sense of pacing and presentation, he has a wide palette from Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson through to Stanley Turrentine and Michael Brecker.

Stanley Turrentine was renowned for his distinctive, thick tone and a style that showed his early grounding in the blues.

Hank Mobley, once described as “the middle weight champion of the tenor saxophone” had a different, but most distinctive laid back, subtle & melodic style.

Dexter Gordon had a large, spacious tone & frame, (he was over 6’6”) pioneering playing behind the beat & regularly inserting improvised musical quotes.
