Daytoner began as a solo producer, providing funk floorfillers for DJs, but in 2015, he formed a unique live band to deliver their vision of a 21st Century soul show whilst respecting the legacy of the golden years of the genre in all its forms, from Northern Soul through to the classic output of motor city, Detroit. Since then Daytoner have toured UK festivals with a rapturous response from audiences at Kendal Calling, Green Man, Boomtown Fair, Bestival and Wilderness to name just a few. In 2017 they began supporting Craig Charles and have performed alongside funk & soul’s main man at 6 club nights since. They have also played a number of special events including the grand opening of ‘Hope’ the new blue whale exhibit at The Natural History Museum.
Daytoner are fronted by Lucy Richards, an experienced soul singer and songwriter who penned the lyrics of their debut LP ‘Off The Hook’. The LP has received airplay across BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1 & 2 over the Summer alongside glowing online reviews from DJs and record stores eg Juno who explained “it's every bit as varied, infectious and feel-good as we hoped it would be. He didn't name it Off The Hook for nothing.”
Lucy co-writes with Moss Daytoner, a DJ and producer with 20 years experience and remixing credits for the likes of The Brand New Heavies, Smoove & Turrell, Renegades Of Jazz and many more. The line-up is completed by in-demand drummer James Frost, Patrick Redmond on bass and Dan Hillman (also of Badcore Horns) on both baritone and tenor saxophone.
