Last Show: Friday 6 th September 2019

The Pheasantry (Chelsea)

Jazz pianist, singer, arranger and conductor Dominic Alldis celebrates the lives of four musical legends, André Previn, Jacques Loussier, Michel Legrand and Doris Day, who have all sadly passed away this year. André Previn made his name as a superlative jazz pianist and musical arranger prior to his success as a classical musician, most famously as principal conductor of The London Symphony Orchestra.  Jacques Loussier took classical music audiences by storm with his jazz interpretations of J S Bach. Michel Legrand was a musical polymath who composed the seminal score for The Umbrellas of Cherbourg as well as Windmills of My Mind from The Thomas Crown Affair. Dominic has a particular affinity for these three artists as, like him, they all straddled classical music and jazz. Dominic will also pay homage to the incomparable movie star and singer Doris Day. Dominic will be joined by Andrew Cleyndert (double bass) and Colin Oxley (guitar).

“It's rare to find a pianist-singer with a style so finely integrated that it's hard to think of voice and piano as separate elements. His subtle treatment of lyrics matches the delicacy of his keyboard harmonies and he swings - quietly but inexorably. We're lucky to have him…"
