Since their success as part of the ‘BBC Introduces’ showcase at Band on the Wall as part of Manchester Jazz Festival (with the live recording was broadcast on BBC Radio 3) in 2013, Dominic J Marshall Trio has been going from strength to strength. Dominic has released 4 CDs since his “striking debut” with “Oneness” in 2012 and his critically acclaimed trio has played twice at North Sea Jazz Festival, among others, and at many high profile venues, including the BIM-huis, Pizza Express Jazz Club, the Southbank Centre, Vortex Jazz Club and many more. The performance at North Sea Jazz Festival was broadcast live on national Dutch television channel NPO. On the strength of his growing reputation Dominic was invited to join British nu-jazz and electronic music group The Cinematic Orchestra. Parallel to his piano career, Dominic’s alter-ego DJM has built up a following outside the jazz-world with several albums of his self-produced beats, BExperimental blog declaring him 'a rare find who will be a formidable force in years to come.'
Dominic J Marshall finds a piano trio format a very intimate and inspiring setting. The compositional approach to improvising has been one of the main elements of the trio’s work as a band, as well as Dominic and his band mates’ insatiable hunger for inspiration which they take from jazz, classical, hip-hop, soul, folk and everything in between. Yet, their sound has a surprising oneness to it and is definitely uncompromising and their own. Dominic has been sharing his life between the UK and Holland and so he has been running two line-ups in parallel. “The Triolithic” brings these two ensembles and experiences together for the first time. “A jazz‐record that twirls with energy” (NRC) The album was listed as one of top 20 albums of 2016 in Jazzwise magazine and nominated for prestigious Edison Award.
On the strength of 'The Triolithic' Dominic was invited to perform on Dutch television shows Vrije Geluiden and De Wereld Draait Door (around 1,000,000 viewers) as well as at internationally renowned jazz festivals State-X New Forms, Transition festival, North Sea Jazz and Robeco Summernights at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. It’s the first time that the Dutch line up, feat. Glenn Gaddum jr (Anouk, Frank McComb, José James, Kris Bowers) and Jamie Peet (Windkracht 7, Ramon Valle, Jesse van Ruller, Kris Bowers, Pete Philly, Gregory Porter) comes over to the UK for only a few appearances– a real treat! The band will play music from this acclaimed album and we can also count on being surprised with new pieces.
