Eli Cripps 'Revelations'

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Friday 27 th October 2023

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

After her last sold out show Eli Cripps returns to show case her latest record. Eli Cripps’s nomadic upbringing living across the African continent has arguably been the biggest influence on her music, giving her an appreciation for harmonic chanting and syncopated rhythms. She credits her family’s eclectic record collection as the source of her musical education, with influences including classical, jazz and blues. She released her album Mars in 2018, where she explored her love of cinematic soundscapes, orchestral touches and Afrobeat rhythms, touring the record in Europe. It was then that Eli understood she felt most authentically herself when performing, better at channelling her innermost feelings on stage than in any other way. Her 2022 Revelations record is a testament to her dearth of potential, showcasing her impressive vocal range and versatility across musical styles. It’s a stunning example of her ability to use her voice as conduit for the spectrum of life’s emotions.

"'What Did You Do’ is the first release from Eli's upcoming Revelations EP. Reflecting on the transgressions of those closest to us; buoyed by harmonies which give the track depth and power, the song features a climactic chorus which Eli sings only once, creating a quirky structure whose payoff brings to mind a Bond theme song."

Kamila Rymajdo, 2022

Eli’s show will centre on her four-track Revelations record including a showcase of her favourite songs from Marsand new material from her upcoming EP, currently untitled.

Drawing inspiration from the prose of Leonard Cohen, the grace of Sade and the soulful delivery of John Legend, the singer’s voice combines the maturity of Lana Del Rey with the optimism of Corinne Bailey Rae, creating a sound that is as much modern as it is classic.

This British-born, African-raised singer is nothing short of eclectic. Her influences range from musical poets such as Leonard Cohen and the ‘First Lady of Song’ Ella Fitzgerald to John Legend’s soulful sounds and Femi Kuti's afrobeats/jazz fusion.

After her  journey on BBC’s The Voice UK, In 2018 Eli released  her debut album in 2018.
