PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Cuban-Argentinian pianist & composer Eliane Correa, curator of the festival, brings a fresh approach to Afro-Cuban folklore through the lens of the flourishing and varied London musical scene. Correa's sultry, rich keyboards layer over syncopated drums grooves accompanying tales of love, migration and healing as sung by vocalist Sahra Gure (+guests). Combining some of the freshest names of the London jazz scene with some of the most established players of Afro-Cuban music in the UK, each elegantly crafted piece is a step of a journey. Expect dancing and an array of special guests.

Eliane Correa is a young Latina pianist and composer based in London since 2008; initially building her UK career with her award-winning Cuban funk fusion band Wara, she eventually branched out into more diverse musical paths. She has since MD'd for world-class Latin musicians such as Maite Hontelé, Mayito Rivera and Pedrito Calvo of Los Van Van; has written, produced and directed the music for several feature films; tours the world as a session pianist with The World Of Hans Zimmer; and regularly collaborates / sessions with an array of musicians across the jazz/soul, African and Latin spectrum, such as Wiyaala, Amy León, Sofree, Bumi Thomas and many more. She is currently the curator of the London Latin Jazz Festival, and also the musical director of US-based West-African inspired musical 'Djembé – The Show'.

Correa is currently steering three original projects of her own: Wara, a fresh, urban take on Latin music featuring a mostly female band and socially conscious messages; Eliane Correa & La Evolución, a Cuban “salsa” band whose set consists of original compositions and Cuban-style arrangements of international hits, and her self-titled Afrocuban-jazz/soul project, ex-En El Aire.
