Filomena Campus Quartet

Queen Mab Project

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Sunday 26 th November 2017

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Queen Mab explores the female side of jazz through the character of Mab, a fairy referred to in Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, where "she is the fairies' midwife, who helps sleepers 'give birth' to their dreams. Campus compares Mab to the Mediterranean myths of the ‘Dea Madre’ (Goddess Mather) and the Janas (Sardinian legendary fairies)  linking her Mediterranean roots to contemporary jazz with an electronic twist. Original music by Lodder and Philips, lyrics by Campus.

"So this is really what jazz can ALSO be; it can be about poetry, about singing it, performing it, it is about creation. An absolutely inventive show."

Following the acclaimed album Jester of Jazz, the Quartet presents their new project 'Queen Mab', that will be recorded in 2018, and that includes original tunes with new music and arrangements by long time collaborators Steve Lodder and Dudley Phillips and lyrics by Campus.
