"[Strange Fruit] makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck."

Andrew Cartmel, London Jazz

Edana Minghella has been singing forever but embarked on her jazz career some eight years ago. She was inspired by the wonderful jazz soundtrack of The Talented Mr Ripley, a film directed by her Oscar-winning brother Anthony Minghella to whom she dedicated her first album Still on My Feet (2011). Produced by Liane Carroll and featuring guest stars including renowned trumpeter Guy Barker, Still on My Feet propelled Edana into the spotlight. Tracks such as Edana’s version of Joni Mitchell’s A Case of You have been described in the press as “heart-wrenching.” She has since been highly in demand, performing at prestigious venues and Festivals nationwide and in Europe, including Newport Jazz Weekend and Bestival.

Edana’s latest album, All or Nothing was released in May 2016. Based on Edana’s sell-out show of song and story, the album celebrates Lady Day’s emotional and unique take on the Great American Songbook. Including the sassy uptempo title track All or Nothing at All, a beautifully simple version of The Nearness of You with Argentinian guitarist, Guillermo Rozenthuler, and a bold spoken-word, completely improvised Strange Fruit, All or Nothing throws a new light on much loved standards. But Edana also takes lesser known work, such as Billie’s own Stormy Blues, and gives it a new lease of life with her sensitive, intensely moving vocal style. The album has been described by Alan Musson, Black Country Radio’s Jazz Presenter, as “fantastic from start to end”.
