PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Glebe make their widely anticipated debut at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club. Presented by EveryAudio, Glebe are a new jazz quintet performing original music inspired by the likes of Maria Schneider and Kenny Wheeler. Composed of some of the most exciting young jazz musicians in the country, the band will be performing a night of highly emotive melodies, evocative soundscapes and a fascinating balance between sections of heavily detailed arranging and sections of great improvisation and spontaneity.

Glebe is the brain child of guitarist Kieran Gunter and pianist Chris Bland, who first met at Leeds College of Music and later went on to house share in a quirky flat above a fish and chip shop on Glebe Place. It was during this memorable time of regular jamming, practising and listening to music together that they discovered a joint appreciation for the music of guitar/piano lead groups such as the Pat Metheny Group and The Impossible Gentlemen.

Inspired in particular by the beautiful and revered compositions of Metheny and Lyle Mayes, Glebe was born. Supported by excellent and much in demand players on the London scene, their original music is characterised by highly emotive melodies, evocative soundscapes and a fascinating balance between sections of heavily detailed arranging and sections of great improvisation and spontaneity. Influence from jazz heavyweights such as Avishai Cohen, Maria Schneider and Kenny Wheeler can be heard, all of whom have been inspirational musicians to them.

Both Kieran and Chris are highly skilled at their instruments and very much in demand, performing in the jazz, classical and pop idioms. They have performed with a large variety of high-profile other musicians including Bobby Shew, Elliot Mason, Brian May and Sophie Evans in venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, PizzaExpress Soho and Steinway Hall.
