On the occasion of his 88th birthday, Hot Orange big band celebrates the music of American pianist, composer and arranger Bob Hammer. Whilst the name may not be familiar, in an illustrious seven decades career, his arrangements and compositions have been recorded by Charles Mingus, Elvin Jones, Woody Herman and Clark Terry amongst a plethora of Jazz greats. This concert will also feature a set focusing on the compositions of Charles Mingus who personally chose Hammer to arrange for his large ensemble albums on the Impulse label.

Now celebrating its 22nd year on the London Jazz scene, Hot Orange big band has established an enviable reputation for top class performances of modern jazz orchestra repertoire mixing Jazz, Fusion, Funk, and Latin genres. Co-lead by American vibraphonist Dave Hammer and (Loose Tubes) trombonist Richard Pywell, Hot Orange has performed at Soho’s Jazz-On-The-Streets Festival, at the 606 Club (Chelsea), the More London Festival (The Scoop), The Forge (Camden), the Victoria & Albert Museum, Hideaway club (Streatham), The Vortex (Stoke Newington/Dalston), plus the Ealing Jazz Festival.

Guest Artists that have performed with Hot Orange include international vocalist Nina Ferro, distinguished pianist/composer/broadcaster Julian Joseph, Latin Percussion legend Roberto Pla and the leading Los Angeles-based guitarist Richard Smith.
