Helen Louise Jones and Martin Savale with new project 'Private Island'. East meets West with Jazz influences. Tones of the East blend with original song and spontaneous improvisation' with Special guest Top British Flute player Phillip Bent. Returning to London after living in India and Nepal for 10 years with a collage of musical colour is the inspiration for Private Island. I want to try to bring a taste of Goa and its freedom to London, still acknowledging Jazz. Its difficult to find musicians In London with experience of Eastern culture and Western music including Jazz. All of us have varying degrees in all areas and we are a project in constant change and progress. Spontaneous organic creativity and energy is what interests us, knowing everything can turn and change at anytime. Knowing we are challenging ourselves to be 'one' as the constant.

"It has been a privilege to share the stage with Helen Louise Jones on a number of occasions. She has never failed to connect with the audience. The colour of her voice makes any material sound fresh!!"

In Goa we made music freely for hours on sunset beaches, no genre specific. If I had stayed in London my musical experience would have been totally different. Not better or worse... So this chance is a dream for many musicians... To feel equally free on get into the flow and hopefully make some magic along the way… for the audience to add influence to the motion.

Helen Louise studied Jazz & Gospel at Goldsmiths University in 1999, singing with funk banks, her own Trio Jazz Connexion and John Millers “Glenn Miller Band’. Contracted to sing by Rennaissance Hotels in Mumbai in 2003, she stayed. Living in Goa, India for 6 years provided a musical dreamscape. World music projects Earthstage and Fabfusion created space to explore other avenues, while singing more American swing style Jazz in Mumbai, Delhi, Kathmandu & Dubai.

“Being a singer has proved a revealing choice with a million challenges’. Raised on the The Carpenters, The Beatles, Barbara Streisand and Abba, the radio was always on. I was constantly exposed to ‘The Great American Songbook', as both my parents performed in Amatuer productions, I knew all the show tunes, that helped me alot later.

In my teens I loved George Benson, Chaka Kahn and Quincy Jones. Attending Goldsmiths and listening to artists like Miles Davis and Nitin Sawhney, I started to become more aware that music was a deeply human process, accessible and ever evolving.

Helen also performs with her own Duo/Trio The London Lounge. Dave Hammers 'Little Bighorn' Big Band. London Venues include: 606 Club, The Hideaway Club & The Pheasantry. She is currently collaborating on an album with writer producer Martin Savale (Asian Dub Foundation).
