Hot Orange big band is thrilled to welcome back award-winning smooth-jazz/soul guitarist Richard Smith on one of his rare visits to the UK, bringing the cool funky sounds of his Los Angeles-based "LA Chilharmonic" supergroup direct to the PizzaExpress, Soho in a special collaboration with London's leading contemporary jazz orchestra. Richard Smith's thirteen solo recordings have established him as a veteran of the contemporary jazz world. His recent recording, 'Tangos', was in the top 10 of the indie and smooth jazz charts for over 5 months. His recordings feature Brian Bromberg, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jeff Lorber, Alex Acuna, Greg Adams and Dan Siegel, amongst others.

Richard Smith

Richard is a tenured, full professor and former Chair of the Studio/Jazz Guitar department at the Thornton School of Music at USC in Los Angeles. Students from the program are working professionally from Broadway and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to recording and touring with such luminaries as Chick Corea, Michael Buble, Elton John, Maroon 5, John Mayer, John Legend, Wulfpeck, Jason Mraz, Knower, Moonchild and hit television programs American Idol and Glee.

Now celebrating its 23rd year on the London Jazz scene, Hot Orange big band has established an enviable reputation for top class performances of modern jazz orchestra repertoire, mixing Jazz, Fusion, Funk, and Latin genres. Co-lead by USA vibraphonist Dave Hammer and (Loose Tubes) trombonist Richard Pywell, Hot Orange has performed at Soho’s Jazz-On-The-Streets Festival, at the 606 Club (Chelsea), Pizza Express Soho, the Café in the Crypt (Trafalgar Square), the More London Festival (at The Scoop), the Hideaway club (Streatham), The Vortex Jazz Club (Stoke Newington/Dalston), the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Forge (Camden), plus the Ealing Jazz Festival.

Guest Artists that have performed with Hot Orange include international vocalist Nina Ferro, distinguished pianist/composer/broadcaster Julian Joseph, Latin Percussion legend Roberto Pla, plus the leading Los Angeles-based contemporary guitarist Richard Smith.
