We are delighted to welcome back the extraordinary trio of acclaimed Italian pianist and composer Ilario Ferrari with Charlie Pyne (bass), and Katie Patterson (drums). Following a successful sold-out performance last year, this time they will be joined by the Solistrings quartet. Together, they will present an exclusive rendition of Ilario's third album, 'Be Yourself’. A blend of Jazz, European classical music, and elements from the Indian tradition that has left audiences in a state of wonderment. A rare opportunity to witness the seamless interplay of a jazz trio and a string quartet in a meticulously orchestrated performance that promises exquisite arrangements, daring improvisations, and soothing meditative atmospheres. A night that promises to transcend musical boundaries and nourish the soul."

“The combination of improvisational jazz, the Indian and European classical traditions and a modernist, even cinematic approach to the compositions and performances is really quite something special and perfectly realised.”

Justin Turford for Truth and Lies Magazine

“Wow – what a show. What a cultural outpouring.… The composition is just wonderful. I'm so thrilled that we have been able to play such a show here in our town”. Christopher Newstead, Director of Watford Jazz Junction on the Live performance of Be yourself trio & strings in September 2023.

“Be Yourself” is a remarkable composition, created over a span of 5 years and released at the time of Ilario Ferrari Trio rising as one of the prominent names in the UK jazz scene. The work premiered at the Iconic Kings place in June last year and has been aired in several radios in the UK and abroad (Jazz FM, Jazz London Radio, Totally Imported FM).

“The sense of travel permeates both suites, whether it be internally or externally. Many miles are traversed as are emotions and thoughts….A heavenly record” Justin Turford for Truth and Lies Magazine on “Be Yourself”.

The trio’s synergy both Musically and personally was evident since their debut show at the Lauderdale house. Their debut album, "Childhood Memories," was nominated as "One of the best jazz albums in 2021" by the Jazz magazine, Jazzists. The trio's style is a combination of Contemporary Jazz, song writing with vocal harmonies and rhythms from Ilario's southern Italian heritage.

The trio's achievements include headlining the Watford Jazz Festival in 2022, collaborating with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra on a world premiere composition by Ilario Ferrari himself, headlining the Italian Ecosuoni Festival and performing at the EFG London Jazz festival earlier in November.

Ilario, Charlie and Katie are currently working on their highly anticipated second album, from which they will preview a couple of tunes during the show at PizzaExpress.
