Jan Harbeck swears by the great tradition of the swing era but re-invents it with his own original touch – he is much more than a big-toned, old school swing tenor. Henrik Gunde on piano, Eske Nørrelykke on bass and Anders Holm on drums have been the regular rhythm section in this popular quartet for years. The Quartet’s latest album ‘Variations in Blue’ received 4 stars in a review in DownBeat Magazine, and their musicianship in this gorgeous set of bluesy standards, tangos and originals is atmospheric and supple, and above all, full of love.

Jan Harbeck was born in Aarhus Denmark in 1975. He graduated in 1998 with a Masters in saxophone from The Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg, and in 1999 from the New School/Mannes College of Music, New York. His quartet received a Danish Music Award for ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ for their first album ‘In the Still of the Night’ in 2008. Since then, their albums have been amongst the very best selling jazz records in Denmark and are distributed widely around the world.
