Janie Dee is an award-winning actress and musical theatre star, celebrated for her extraordinary versatility in work on stage, film, television and radio. Her career embraces everything from Shakespeare at the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare's Globe, to acclaimed performances in classic plays, modern dramas and comedies, as well as leading roles in many of the great musicals. In addition, she regularly performs her witty, sophisticated cabarets at leading venues in London and across the UK.

Janie has worked closely with Alan Ayckbourn, Michael Frayn and Harold Pinter and become a renowned interpreter of their work. In recent years, she has collaborated with the next generation of outstanding young playwrights; appearing in Lucy Kirkwood’s NSFW at The Royal Court, for which she received her fourth Olivier Award nomination and has just completed a critically acclaimed run playing the title role in Linda by Penelope Skinner at Manhattan Theatre Club in New York, for which she was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award.

She won the Olivier Award, Evening Standard Award and Critics Circle Awards, and the Obie and Theatre World Best Newcomer Award in New York, for her hilarious and heart-breaking performance in Alan Ayckbourn's Comic Potential. She received the Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her performance in Nicholas Hytner's acclaimed production of Carousel at the National Theatre and the TMA UK Theatre Award for Best Performance in a Musical for her Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! at Curve, Leicester. 

In recent years, Janie has starred in Noises Off at the Old Vic and Novello, the London premiere of Putting It Together at the St James Theatre, the acclaimed West End revival of Blithe Spirit, with Dame Angela Lansbury and played Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream for Shakespeare's Globe on a tour of Asia and Russia. She was Desiree in a 40th anniversary concert of A Little Night Music, Helene Hanff in 84 Charing Cross Road at Salisbury Playhouse, starred in a rare revival of Eugene O'Neill's Ah Wilderness! at the Young Vic and was Irina Arkadina in The Seagull at Regent's Park.  Last year she appeared in the West End transfer of Tony-nominated Broadway play Hand To God and played Cleopatra for Shakespeare's Globe at the Hollywood Bowl and the Barbican. 

Janie is currently starring as Phyllis Rogers Stone in Follies at the National Theatre.​​
