PizzaExpress welcomes back Manchester based Jazz & Blues singer pianist Jeremy Sassoon; one of the UK’s most in-demand singer/pianists who captivates audiences with his natural soulful voice, a distinctive bluesy piano style, and his own adaptations of the Ray Charles songbook.

Jeremy’s “Ray Charles Project” was originally launched at the Manchester Jazz Festival in 2009, when it has captured the imagination of Jazz, Blues and Soul audiences alike. The show has gone on to headline at Ronnie Scott's, The Jazz Cafe, Bluesfest, Manchester Jazz Festival and Wigan International Jazz Festival, to overwhelming ovations. This year it will headline Scarborough Jazz Festival.

The late, great Ray Charles produced an immense repertoire of memorable tunes spanning several decades, and Jeremy reflects this with a set that include Ray Charles classics (Georgia on my Mind, What I’d Say, I Gotta Woman, Hallelujah I Love Her So) and some lesser known, but equally compelling musical gems from the catalogue (The Jealous Kind, I Don’t Need No Doctor, Hardhearted Hannah)

The Ray Charles Project always showcases the UK’s finest musicians. All arrangements come courtesy of tenor saxophonist and MD Iain Dixon (BBC Big Band, Michael Brecker, Joni Mitchell, Bryan Ferry). The horn section tonight features trumpeter Mike Davis and saxophonist Paul Booth. The show is further lit up by Jeremy's stunning trio of backing vocalists, the “Jaelettes”.

Jeremy is excited to feature his good friend and vocalist Annabel Williams in tonight's show. Annabel is a remarkable performer and singer and is well known as “the vocal coach to the stars” through her work on the X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent. She works with a plethora of formidable artists, offering her talents as a lead or backing singer, or as a vocal coach.
