John Etheridge’s Sweet Chorus 'for Grappelli'

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Sunday 10 th September 2023

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Sweet Chorus was originally formed by John in 1998, responding to the passing of the great violinist Stephane Grappelli with whom he’d had a long association in the late 70s, early 80s. Their fist gig was at the PizzaExpress, therefore, to celebrate 25 years as a band, they are performing tonight with 3 out of the 4 members who were there in 1998. The band features violin wizard Chris Garrick, rhythm guitar maestro Dave Kelbie and brilliant bass player Andy Crowdy (who joined in 2005). All fans of acoustic jazz will love this concert.

"It is music that demands that you close your eyes and listen, for only then can the ethereal nature of what is being played stand separate from the physical reality of darting fingers and blurred plectrums."

James Griffiths, The Guardian

"Earlier that evening at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club, the interplay in John Etheridge's acoustic quartet, Sweet Chorus, proved even more subtle. Gorgeous stuff." Clive Davis, The Times
