Following his acclaimed March shows award winning Australian singer/songwriter/pianist John Thorn returns to The Pheasantry to perform his collection of original songs in 'Background Boy'. Renowned in the international cabaret scene for his work behind artistes, including Meow Meow, Bob Downe and Barb Jungr, John now commands the spotlight with this sublime collection of original songs in the tradition of Randy Newman, Hoagy Carmichael and Blossom Dearie. Included are John’s musical settings of poems from legendary Australian writer Henry Lawson, that Barry Humphries described as “miraculous”.

He has 15 Melbourne Green Room Awards nominations (winning 2) and in 2015 received the Green Room 'Outstanding Contribution To Cabaret Award'. As well as his solo show 'Background Boy', John’s recent work includes music for acclaimed film 'Ali’s Wedding'. He has recently returned from the Edinburgh International Festival 2017 where he performed with Meow Meow in her smash hit, 'Little Mermaid' and accompanied New York performer Jason Kravits, in his show 'Off The Top'.

He will be joined by fellow Australian singer Taryn Ryan.
