Last Show: Monday 13 th November 2017

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

A rare club date from two European jazz greats, saxophonist John Surman and vocalist Karin Krog.

Karin Krog is perhaps Norway's leading jazz singer and certainly its most idiomatic. She is a unique song artist with a great international reputation possessing her own recognizable style and voice. Her constant creative approach towards contemporary jazz has never been bound by tradition, even though her music bears a deep respect for its forms. Karin is equally at home with jazz standards, blues or electronic experimental techniques. In addition, she has been active in improving the working conditions for musicians and contributing towards a vital jazz milieu. In 2017 she celebrates her 80th birthday and a career of more than 50 years since her first released LP as a solo artist.

Saxophonist and composer John Surman is a key member of a richly talented generation of British jazz artists who emerged during the 1960s, revered and admired internationally for his pioneering approach to jazz and improvised music. Throughout his 40-year career, he has developed the use of electronics in solo and group performance, working with brass ensembles, choirs, string quartets and orchestras as well as in more familiar jazz settings.

"It would be hard to find two talents more well-matched than Norwegian singer Karin Krog and British multi-instrumentalist John Surman."
