"How did I end up here?” There’s a saying "Make plans and God laughs” Kate de Freitas expected to join the RSC instead she found herself singing for a living. She looks back on a musical journey that took her from singing soprano to musical theatre to writing her own jazz songs. She takes you on a humorous and nostalgic view of that path. Songs from Nina Simone to Matilda are just an example of the eclectic evening to come with many well known songs from contemporary musical theatre in addition to classics from the past ranging from Judy Garland to Lady Gaga.

Kate de Freitas (aka Christie Williams) has sung for and with Sir John Mills, Sam Mendes, and Jamie Cullum. She has had an extensive career in theatre (Les Liaisons Dangereuses), musical theatre (Les Miserables, Aspects of Love, Noel & Gertie) and several television roles for the BBC,( playing leads in Holby City, Sunburn and the Bill.) Kate has appeared at the Pheasantry with jazz fusion band Momentum and has performed her own songs with them there She had a residency at the Half Moon Putney, sung with Fat Sams Big band at the Edinburgh jazz festival and has played the Ealing Jazz Festival for the last four years running with her trio Kate de Freitas and the Babacools. 

Kate will be accompanied by hugely talented Simon Beck on piano."Most recently, Simon has had the great honour of collaborating with UK & US stars on a series of legacy concerts: Lorna Luft celebrating her mother, Judy Garland (The Pheasantry/Crazy Coqs, London), Hal Cazalet celebrating his step-great grandfather, PG Wodehouse (Crazy Coqs, London), and Liz Robertson celebrating her late husband, Alan J Lerner (The Pheasantry, London, and album).
