Signed to Tru Thoughts Recordings and referencing a wide range of genres in their writing, Lakuta is a Brighton-based collective of percussion, guitar, kora, bass and horns, fronted by the soulful and uplifting vocal talent of Siggi Mwasote.

Immersing themselves in their musical and multi-cultural heritages, the band have roots that run through Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Malaysia, and Europe. The name ‘lakuta’ originates from singer Siggi's mother tongue and translates from Swahili to mean ‘to find, meet and share’. Referencing a fusion of musical styles, Lakuta draw on their soul, jazz and world music backgrounds to unearth a conversation that explores modern and traditional approaches.

Since releasing their first single “Bata Boy” and their standout debut album ‘Brothers & Sisters’ (produced by Nick Faber), Lakuta have created an uproar. A music video premiere on Afropunk added to rave reviews in The Guardian, The Independent, Blues & Soul, Songlines; radio spins from Lauren Laverne, Julie Adenuga, Alex Lester; praise from Basement Jaxx’s Felix Buxton, Bobbito & Laurent Garnier; and an interview on Bandcamp Weekly Radio.
