Liz Robertson is one of the most popular British West End stars, equally at home here and in America. Starting as a dancer over 50 years ago, Liz made her West End debut in A Little Night Music, followed by Side By Side By Sondheim and I Love My Wife.
She was then chosen by Cameron Mackintosh to star as Eliza Doolittle in his revival of the iconic musical My Fair Lady at the Adelphi Theatre. For this performance Liz received an Olivier nomination and an award from the Variety Club Of Great Britain. After a year in the West End she went on to star in The Mitford Girls at Chichester which was followed by her one person show Just Liz at the Duke Of Yorks Theatre which was also televised.
A string of starring roles in great musicals followed: Maria in Sound Of Music, Anna in The King & I in America opposite Rudolf Nureyev for which she won several prestigious awards, Irene in Sherlock Holmes The Musical, Song & Dance at The Palace Theatre and Kern Goes To Hollywood at the Donmar and Broadway, where she also starred in Dance A Little Closer written by her husband Alan Jay Lerner.
She starred in the Music Man at the Open Air theatre Regent's Park, Beethoven's Tenth at Chichester, and Madame Giri in Phantom Of The Opera at Her Majesty's for two years and Velma in Hairspray at The Shaftesbury Theatre with Michael Ball.
Liz has made many concert and cabaret appearances both here and in America and performed at the Kennedy Centre Honours before President and Mrs Reagan and appeared in four Royal Variety Performances. She returned to sing the role of Eliza to honour Sir Cameron Mackintosh in Hey Mr Producer in the presence of Her Majesty, The Queen
Liz created the role of Madame Giri in the sequel to Phantom, Love Never Dies at The Adelphi Theatre and played her again in The Phantom Of The Opera’s 25th Anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall.
In recent years Liz has performed the title role in Valerie Hobson about her life as an actress and wife to John Profumo.
She has played her acclaimed one woman show ‘Lerner Without Loewe’ at The Pheasantry and at Don’t Tell Mama in New York and is currently in Mary Poppins playing the role of Miss Andrews.
Liz’s past 50 years in musical theatre will be condensed in an evening of song and anecdotes entitled ‘Shreds and Patches’ a nod to her wandering minstrel life.
