Luke Bacchus

A finalist in BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022, Luke Bacchus is one of the most exciting emerging jazz musicians on the UK scene. Born and raised in London to Guyanese parents, Bacchus musically explores his Caribbean heritage as one of his major sources of inspiration. This coupled with his education in jazz piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire has given him a distinct sound, pairing entrancing rhythms from the Caribbean with Jazz harmonies in his originals, as well as a unique approach to playing standards. Bacchus’ performances always promise to be both inspiring and enriching, guiding listeners on a journey through the vast history of African people in the Americas.

Luke Bacchus is a 22 year old pianist, born and raised in London to Guyanese parents. A finalist in BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022, Bacchus impressed audiences with his treatment of standards, as well as his own unique Caribbean-inspired original music, fuelled by his exploration of his own identity as a Caribbean person. Bacchus describes music as a ‘doorway through which he can explore his heritage’ and his compositions and playing have been hailed by Julian Joseph as having ‘real heart and sincerity’.

Bacchus’ commitment to studying and sharing music from the English, French, Dutch and Spanish-speaking Caribbean, and his ability to recontextualise said music into traditional jazz settings, sets him apart as one of the most unique and exciting emerging jazz musicians. His performances always promise to be inspiring and enriching, exploring Jazz and traditional Afro-Caribbean music, as well as the meeting point of the two.
