Time Out Barcelona (Spain)

Luna Cohen was born in Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, known not only for its mineral wealth, but also for its history, tradition, cuisine, literature, music and poetry.  Luna Cohen's music springs from that rich soil: the music that her family listened to at home planted a seed, which grew and bloomed far away from home.

In 2000 Luna left the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belo Horizonte and went to Barcelona to finish her studies but chance led her to singing. After a casual meeting followed by an informal recording session with Manu Chao, she decided to go to music college, where she started meeting and working with other jazz musicians.

In 2012, Luna was ready for her first album. "Estrada del Sol", released by the renowned Catalan label "Temps Record". The following year she won the “Enderrock Award for Best New Release” in the Jazz category. Then she started perfoming in some of the most respected jazz clubs and festivals in Spain. As she met new musicians she added new layers to her style, growing her repertoire. In 2013, Luna composed a song for the “Beat Chagas” project, which was supported by the World Health Organization, Barcelona Football Club and The Leo Messi Foundation. She included that song on "Flor do Cerrado", her second album released by Temps Record in 2014.

In the middle of 2014, Luna arrived for a short holiday in London, and after jamming at some sessions she got invitations for gigs in the city. After going back to Barcelona, it was not long before she returned to London to stay. In December of that year she launched her third album "Começo do Caminhar", a duo record with the guitarist Jurandir Santana produced by Temps Records.

In London, she met the award-winning British guitarist Rob Luft, with whom a new musical partnership was born, composing and performing together. The fourth CD, "November Sky", produced and released by Temps Record, began taking shape with songs composed in London. It was launched in 2016 at Mas i Mas Festival, in Barcelona, as well as at the 606 Club, one of the foremost jazz clubs in the British capital. She started being invited to perform in other important clubs in London such as Pizza Express, The Bull's Head and Ronnie Scott's. In 2017, November Sky was nominated to compete for the Best Album Award at the MIN - Independent Music Prize, in Spain and the Enderrock Award in Catalonia.

With her voice, Luna enchants audiences that she meets along the way. Her jazzy bias music is in constant process of creation. Anyone who hears Luna's voice feels the music that was born from a mineral source that flowing like clear and constant water.
