Last Show: Tuesday 5 th April 2022

The Pheasantry (Chelsea)

It is their strong jazz roots that unite Magalí Sare and Manel Fortià in ‘Fang i Núvols’, a duo album that comprises a mixture of traditional Latin America, Catalan and original songs. The title ‘Fang i Núvols’, mud and clouds, defines the characteristic sound of the duet: their music is raw and naked, and the freshness and risk of improvisation allows them to reinterpret the songs by reformulating melodies, forms, and rhythm. It is a constant role-playing game: if one of the two sediments is the rhythmic part of the music (mud), the other can float freely above it (clouds).

"An album that goes after what the essence of a song is, as its own genre"

Revista Serra d’Or

Magalí Sare is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer from Catalonia. This won’t be her first time in London. She was here at PizzaExpress Jazz Club at the 2019 London Catalan Festival performing with Clara Peya’s project "ESTÓMAC".

In 2018 she released an album of her own compositions titled “Cançons d'amor i dimonis”. Two years later, in 2020, Magalí published two duo albums. The first one, “A boy and a girl”, was recorded with guitarist Sebastià Gris. This is a project that revisits classical and folk music with electronics. This project won the first Jazz Award of ‘Juventudes Musicales de España’ and the first prize in the international music competition in minority languages ??"SUNS Europe". Her other duo album was the one being presented today at The Pheasantry: "Fang i núvols" (Mud and clouds), created and recorded with double bassist Manel Fortià. This album comprises a mixture of traditional Latin America, Catalan and original songs. D

Magalí also released two albums as a soprano of the Quartet Mèlt: “Maletes” (2016) and “Xarrampim!” (2017), a quartet of a cappella voices that became well-known after winning the TV contest "Oh Happy Day" organised by Catalan National TV.

In all projects described, Magalí went on tour across Catalonia, Spain and Europe. In 2020, besides publishing her first two singles "Cronos" and "Beber de ti", Magalí was the voice of the prestigious Estrella Damm summer ad.

On April 29th, 2022, she will release her second album of her own compositions.

Manel Fortià is a catalan double bassist based between Barcelona and NY with a long career as an interpreter, improviser and composer in jazz and modern music.
