“He has that very rare ability to make a song you know still touch your heart and seem to reveal itself in a new light.”

Tonight’s gig will feature new arrangements of well-known and less familiar songs by writers ranging from Jerome Kern and Frank Loesser to Smokey Robinson and Bacharach and David.  Mark’s band features his regular partners Chris Lee (piano), Geoff Gascoyne (bass) and Tristan Mailliot (drums).

Mark is known for his ability to combine technical skill with heartfelt interpretation of a lyric.  He says: “I really want people to feel the emotion at the heart of a song.  It can be about a new arrangement that brings something fresh to the familiar – so you’re hearing it as though for the first time – or playing something very simply so that you can really focus on the story.  Most of all, I want people to feel joy from the music.”

“Hugely enjoyable” - Jazzwise

“Refreshingly original in his treatment of the great American songbook, he improvises in a manner that brings to mind Mark Murphy” - Jazz Rag.
