Mark Jennett
A 60s Songbook
Last Show: Thursday 25 th October 2018
The Pheasantry (Chelsea)
When it comes to diversity in popular music, the 1960's were king. The likes of Bacharach & David, Jimmy Webb, Randy Newman and Laura Nyro reinvented the Great American Songbook, while jazz hipsters such as Bob Dorough and Tommy Wolf continued to pen new standards. Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen gave Sinatra a much-needed boost, returning him to the charts, and Antônio Carlos Jobim popularised the sounds of Latin America. Returning to the Pheasantry, Mark Jennett and his trio celebrate the music of this golden decade, with fresh interpretations of all these and more in a programme of songs both familiar and less well-known.
