Event Has Passed

Last Show: Friday 10 th June 2022

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Mark Nightingale on trombone and Alan Barnes on clarinet and saxophones, unarguably two of the great multi award winning jazz icons of the U.K. scene, return to Dean Street for another evening of wonderful music in response to your demand from their earlier sold out concerts. It was a complete sell out when first, in 2021, we presented Mark Nightingale and Alan Barnes with their remarkable arrangements, inventive musicianship and stunning improvisation playing the music of George Gershwin. They returned twice more in Autumn that year and earlier in 2022, to acclaimed success, playing the music of Cole Porter and Henry Mancini. So if you missed these, or better still if you enjoyed them and want more, we have invited their return to play the very best selection from all three evenings to deliver a veritable “smorgasbord” of Nightingale and Barnes delights with the music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Henry Mancini.

The very best of creative swinging jazz in the 21st Century, with love and respect for three 20th Century composing icons, make for an enjoyable sunny summer evening on Dean Street.

“Mark Nightingale never puts a foot wrong, producing a string of solos which are constantly inventive while keeping your foot tapping”. .— Tony Augarde, Crescendo & Jazz Magazine

“Alan Barnes stylistic range is quite phenomenal… He has a wonderful capacity for suggesting a given style without actually imitating anyone” .
