The Times

Pianist, composer and bandleader Morten Schantz, born 1980 in Aarhus, Denmark, is by no means a newcomer on the international jazz scene. In 2005 he founded and became the main songwriter for critically acclaimed supergroup, JazzKamikaze, (which also included fellow band-member Anton Eger) and the band has since won numerous awards and toured across five continents. He has released eight albums - four with JazzKamikaze and four as a soloist with his own groups Morten Schantz Trio, Unicorn and Segment.

Born near Birmingham UK, saxophonist, band leader & composer, Julian Argüelles moved to London at the age of 18 where he gained recognition as a creative and original musician. At 20 he joined the much acclaimed band Loose Tubes. He’s toured and recorded throughout the world with leading musicians such as Hermeto Pascoal, Dave Holland, Django Bates, John Scofield, Kenny Wheeler, John Abercrombie, Bill Frisell, and John Taylor. He has recorded thirteen CDs as a leader to date and continues to be one of Europe’s most in demand instrumentalists & composers. He was shortlisted for a BASCA for his composition “Hocus Pocus” and nominated for a Parliamentary Jazz Award for his 2014 CD, Circularity which featured Dave Holland on bass, John Taylor piano and Martin France drums. He is now based in Graz, Austria where he is Professor of Jazz Saxophone at the KUG, Jazz.

Drummer Anton Eger was born 1980 in Oslo, Norway of a Swedish mother and Norwegian father. Due to his fathers work, the family moved to Romania in 1985 and two years later to Venezuela. In 1988 the family was in a plane accident, which Anton and his younger brother survived but in which their parents tragically died. The brothers moved to Sweden to live with relatives and Anton started playing drums in his mid teens in various punk and rock bands alongside the school marching band. He went on to study classical percussion and after high school served as a musician in His Majesty´s King´s Guard in Norway. At the age of 22 he attended the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and took his master degree there. The city has since served as a platform for all the bands Anton has performed with and co-led, including Anglo-Scandinavian piano trio Phronesis, JazzKamikaze and longtime collaborator Marius Neset, with whom he has co-written and produced the saxophonists three latest albums.
