“Smooth…soulful…deeply sensuous and romantic…” – These are just a few of the words used to describe the music of Nicolas Bearde.

His silky baritone sound invites comparisons to Jon Lucien, Bill Withers, Lou Rawls, and Joe Williams, and he has established himself as a powerful presence in the contemporary male jazz vocal category over the past couple of decades.

Bearde has toured, performed and recorded with a long list of jazz luminaries including Vincent Herring, Eric Alexander, Jeremy Pelt, Nat Adderley, Jr, David Garfield, Alfonso Johnson, Nelson Braxton, Patrice Rushen, Bernard Purdie, plus the Ebony Big Band in Berlin, and spent fifteen- plus years on the road with Bobby McFerrin and his unique and trend setting ensemble, “Voicestra”.

Largely a self-taught musician, Nicolas grew up in Nashville, TN, and became a professional R&B singer while serving in the US Airforce in Japan, before settling in the San Francisco Bay Area where he began developing his jazz chops. His first and second albums, ‘Crossing the Line” and “All About Love” blurred the lines between R & B, Blues and Jazz and were released in the UK on the Expansion Records label, garnering great reviews by UK music critics and radio.

His subsequent albums, “Live at Yoshi’s – A Salute to Lou”, recorded at the famed Yoshi’s jazz club in Oakland, CA conjures up Lou Rawls spirit in song from his early blues, jazz and classic monologues to his hugely popular R&B hits that made him world-famous,…”Visions” – a vibrant, up-tempo and soulfully driven compilation of originals and standards  reflects the continuation of Bearde’s jazz journey, and  on his most recent solo outing, “Invitation” – Nicolas comes out swinging with both feet firmly planted in the straight ahead jazz milieu.

His debut performance at PizzaExpress will feature an enticing collection of originals and jazz standards covering a wide range of material that speaks volumes about Bearde’s diverse musical influences.
