Peter King - Special Tribute and Benefit Night

Jazz Legends Series at PizzaExpress

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Monday 26 th February 2018

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

77 years old this year and still dazzling audiences with his spontaneity, sensational swing, beauteous melodic sense and awesome virtuosity. Peter King is a national treasure. He is without doubt one of the greatest alto sax players in the world and one the greatest musicians to have emerged from the UK. He has often been compared to Charlie Parker but is very much his own man. He is the original blueprint of what it means to be a jazz musician. He does not hide behind complex arrangements and musical devices but rather soars over changes playing pure melody with the excitement of a hurricane and imbues every note with passion and vitality.

All proceeds from the night's performance will go towards Peter's medical care and expenses. Please come and show your support for one of the last living legends of this music.

"I hear both Trane and Bird in his playing, but he is better than either of them." - Gene Lees (Lyricist and long time editor of Downbeat Magazine)

“The finest alto saxophonist that Britain has ever produced, and one of the finest in the world today” - Dave Gelly, 'The Giants of Jazz', Aurum Press, 1986:

Many very special guests, colleagues, friends and fans will come together for this celebration/benefit, to play and be part of this unique evening.

Don't miss the chance to be there and hear what will be a very special night of music, and to support a true jazz legend made in the UK.
