PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Based out of London, Phoenician Blinds are a jazz-leaning instrumental quartet with blends of straight-ahead jazz, cinematic soundscapes and traces of Hip Hop. Influenced by the likes of Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Robert Glasper and Avishai Cohen, this is music sure to make you groove and contemplate the essence of soulful music. They’ll be playing material from their debut album 'Elephantine' as well as their soon to be released second record 'A Second of Silence'.

This will be the band’s first appearance at PizzaExpress Jazz Club as part of a series of concerts around the UK in anticipation of their second record. They’ve been playing the London circuit for just over a year, slowly crafting their unique sound. "It's the classic jazz quartet in a slightly different light. We work in an unusually organic way both live and in the studio, even in jazz terms. The tunes are mostly written at the piano and then brought to the studio where no one is given any musical guidelines, let alone any written music. We just roll and see what happens which gives the tunes a fresh feel and a sense that everyone really is meeting at the centre." The band is comprised of Julian Knapp on tenor saxophone, Tom Sochas on Piano and Rhodes, Oli Cross on electric Bass and recent addition Matt Parkinson on Drums.
