Caught In The Rain is the anticipated second album from Pixie and The Gypsies, whose debut album Honey Trap soared to number one in the iTunes Jazz charts in 2018. It was released last summer on Friday 10th July, following the first single from the album, Taciturn, on Thursday 14th May 2020.
Two years in the making, and recorded at London’s floating Soup Studio, this album has taken their classic gypsy swing style and developed it into something bigger and bolder. A musical and emotional exploration, the tracks take the listener through life’s trials, pleasures and pressures, while exploring a pool of different genres and influences.
Keeping their core of percussive acoustic guitar, ethereal violin and charming accordion, the band has incorporated strong elements of soul, funk and R&B into tracks such as “Taciturn”, an epic story of love and rejection told from the perspective of a mistress, and the emotionally charged number “Get Out Of My Mind”, a track with an incredible electric solo from guitarist Matt Wilson.
“This album was made for vinyl” Alex Wharton, Abbey Road Mastering Engineer
Other styles include blues, folk and reggae, as well as Brazilian bossa nova as heard on the track “To Be Here Too”, where lyrics are sung in Portuguese by Pixie, her sultry vocal tone intertwining with luscious string parts played by violinist Connie Chatwin, creating an auditory paradise that transports the listener to another place.
Guest appearances on the album include fantastic drums and percussion from Ed Harley and clarinet from the acclaimed Adrian Cox.
Caught In The Rain is an album that touches on subjects such as identity, life’s pressures, mental health, relationships and personal growth, and is available now on Spotify and iTunes. CDs and vinyl will also be available for purchase.
