Ralph Porrett // St. Barbe DOUBLE BILL

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Thursday 5 th August 2021

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

EveryAudio presents a special double bill – featuring two of the brightest young guitar led ensembles. Fresh from his stellar performance on national TV, competing in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year, Ralph Porrett is one of this country’s most exciting young. Blending his love of a wide variety of styles, Porrett is accompanied by his ‘killing’ young trio. London-based trio, St. Barbe, takes the harmonic and rhythmic language of jazz and melds it with a visceral rock energy. Drawing on the compositions of guitarist James Maltby, the group balances extended improvisations with intricate trio arrangements that weave folk-inflected melodies over metrically-shifting grooves.

In 2020, Ralph was the first ever guitarist to perform in the BBC Young Jazz Musician Final. He has also performed at the Barbican, 02 Arena, Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Stadium and Birmingham Town Hall. Currently in his 3rd year at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Ralph studies jazz guitar with John Parricelli, Stuart Hall, Colin Oxley, Tommy Emmerton and classical guitar with Jørgen Skogmo. Ralph loves performing and improvising in a variety of styles, especially jazz.

Ralph draws inspiration from Wes Montgomery, Bill Frisell and Mike Walker. Regular performances with his trio consolidate these influences and catalyse the development of his voice as an improviser.
